Karen Blixen Museum
The first stop is the Karen Blixen Museum, the former home of the renowned Danish author whose works include Out of Africa, Seven Gothic Tales and Anecdotes of Destiny. The acclaimed film adaptation of Out of Africa was filmed here, adding to the site’s historical charm. Visitors can explore the beautifully preserved homestead, wander through the vibrant gardens, and take in the scenic backdrop of the Ngong Hills.
Lunch at Tamambo
Lunch is served at Tamambo Coffee House, located within the museum grounds. Guests can relax and enjoy a delicious meal before continuing the tour.
Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
The next stop is the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a dedicated charity focused on the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of orphaned elephants and rhinos. The keepers deliver informative talks about each animal’s journey, including those successfully released back into the wild. On lucky occasions, visitors may also see a rare rhino orphan being prepared for reintroduction.
Giraffe Centre
The final destination is the Giraffe Centre, a non-profit organisation committed to the conservation of the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Guests can meet and feed the giraffes from an elevated platform, offering a memorable up-close experience. Over 500 Rothschild giraffes have been successfully reintroduced into the wild since the centre opened in 1979. The sanctuary also provides a haven for numerous exotic and beautiful bird species.
